Formations touches on order and chaos found both in natural and manmade worlds. In this two-person exhibition artists Victoria Wagner and Erik Parra each tackle this theme with their own style and approach fleshing out the unexpected interactions that happen when those worlds collide

With painting, drawings and sculpture, Victoria Wagner dissects nature and the order of matter and light with her explosive geometries that transcend structure and function. Through her work, Wagner searches for softness in the hardness of an edge and the complication of life. The function of man on the landscape is central in the playful and skilled drawings, paintings and collages of Erik Parra. His mixed media work is a blend of dynamic color and intricate rendering, juxtaposing grand natural formations with geometric, human built structures. Parra’s paintings depict man’s presence as the catalyst for chaos with unnaturally bright tents, domes and parka clad humans.

Victoria Wagner received her MFA from Mills College in Oakland, and teaches at both CCA and Sonoma State. She has exhibited extensively both locally and nationally. Recent exhibitions include Don Soker Contemporary Art, Headlands Center for the Arts, Southern Exposure and the DiRosa Art and Nature Preserve.

Erik Parra received an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A recent transplant to the Bay Area, Parra has exhibited locally at Southern Exposure, Headlands Center for the Arts, as well as being widely exhibited nationally.

Victoria dreamt up this service as a way to lend her impartial ear to any person that needed to be heard or unload something that was weighing on them without judgement or advice, just simple listening.

Victoria will be available for listening station events at Blankspace on
